TOFUD#Chongqing-BB2’, which I created at Organhouse in Chongqing in 2016 is based on the relationship between Chongqing’s unique type of old fashion laborers ‘Bangbang’, professional porters in Chongqing who use bamboo sticks as tools for their work, and the city Chongqing.

While the city is expanding at an extremely rapid speed, Bangbang men are disappearing from the urban scene at a similarly rapid speed. But they are also hard core present because of their indispensability in the building process of the megapolis. They are cheap, very tough, and they can go where no crane can come because of the mountain shape of Chongqing.

It’s manpower vs. modern building, two opposite forces necessary for the future process. Therefore I directed a walk by two Bangbang carrying my futuristic model on a dense location in Chongqing. Carrying the model looks very natural in the public area. The trip ends into the white gallery space where my observation becomes a statement.
