Chongqing, China

I love the features of this building, The Grand Theatre in Chongqing by GPM-Architects. I noticed it already it when I was visiting the very east part of Chongqing peninsula where the rivers confluent. Last week I went to the other side and took a closer look, I was surprised that the whole siding was made of glass panels that gives it this slightly translucent character. So far it’s the best piece of architecture I’ve seen here. I think it’s clever that the architect took distance from the ever ongoing vertical high-rise and connects more to the horizontal lines of the river while still using this grayish tone that fits to it’s environment and is so characteristic for this city. It illuminates at night, which I doubt is an extra, and worse there is a huge screen at one side that shows advertisements all the time during night. But that shouldn’t spoil the fun.
