Against All Odds Project Ethics/Aesthetics

This book presents the first of the Against All Odds project series of projects that examines through the collective work of a big group of people the subject ‘Ethics / Aesthetics.’ Views and theses of significant theoreticians, architects, designers and artists are presented as they were recorded during the two interdisciplinary conferences realized by the AAO project in January and in June 2011, as well as the pioneer projects and artworks around the world that were the material of the main exhibition “Ethics / Aesthetics” at the Benaki Museum, Pireos Annex, from 8 June to 31 July 2011.

Additionally, the book presents the results of the academic workshops with urban subjects that were organized from March to May 2011 by the AAO project with Parsons The New School For Design (New York), University Paris 8/CITU Research Center of Paragraphe Laboratory, National Technical University of Athens, University of Thessaly and Athens School of Fine Arts, some of them comprising the urban action “Athens Here and Now”, interactive and video artworks realized in the historical center of Athens. Finally, the book includes the artworks of the parallel group show of Greek contemporary artists “Slow Down Rooms” as well as other performance actions. All of the above are connected and have as a main subject the realization of works with a direct social impact, through a spirit of evaluation of the contemporary social and ecological problems and the need to react by serving a feeling of “emergency”. The global framework of discourse is correlated with the local parameter and application.

The AAO project is organized by the non-profit organization 4Life Strategies. AAO’s concept and curator is architect Lina Stergiou (Greece) who also edited the book.
